How her sun and moon sign impact her money habits.

We all have those friends who match their zodiac signs to a T. The one who’s always late to dinner, the friend who makes every conversation about herself, and that friend who you can never get a rise out of. Yup, you’re probably thinking about her now. Perhaps it’s you? Sure, our zodiac signs can offer us a deeper understanding of our personalities–or at least a trivial excuse for them–but did you know that our spending and money habits can also be a reflection of where our sun moon positions fall?

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Your Aries girlfriend is usually the one to save up or make a lot of money. She’s also the one who indulges in spending freely. Because your Aries friend is naturally ambitious and usually able to get what she wants, she feels no hesitation for having a good time and spending her hard-earned money. If you’re looking to have a fun night out or plan an activity-packed vacation, your Aries friend is the one to call.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Taurus love the finer things in life and will not settle for anything less.  Your Taurus friend will spend a bit more for luxurious things, as quality is way more important than quantity. She’s also a great gift-giver who puts thought into gifting no matter the cost. Although she may seem to be just the spending type, she also works very hard for what she has and is generous with her money. She makes the perfect fancy brunch date, as she isn’t one to turn down a nice bottle of sparkling rose.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Ah, Gemini. The unpredictable sign of the zodiac. When it comes to her finances, it’s no different. She knows how to keep her  money in order and won’t spend it on anything that is unimportant. However, that doesn’t mean she won’t blow her money away. Just because she knows better doesn’t always mean she does better. Your Gemini friend is risk-taker and will often gamble her money away on herself, meaning she’s confident enough she’ll get more money, so why not spend her entire paycheck in Sephora?

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Cancers are really good at spending their money on things that are essential. You probably already know this, since it’s likely that you’ve borrowed money from your Cancer friend, but your Cancer friend saves on a regular basis. When they do decide to spend their money, it usually goes toward traveling first, which is why your Cancer friend would be the best person to take a cross-country roadtrip with next Summer.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Your Leo girlfriend will budget and save her money for that expensive designer handbag she’s been coveting. Once she has the money saved up, she won’t show one ounce of guilt spending money on a big ticket item. She will carry that handbag proudly like the lioness she is. She always strives to look good and will hunt for bargains if needed to get exactly what she wants. Your Leo friend is your go-to shopping buddy and the one to drag along to your favorite stores’ sales.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Virgos usually limit themselves and know how to stretch out their money.  Your Virgo gal pal is great at treating herself, but only once a month. She prefers quality over quantity. She’d rather indulge in a nice hair treatment that will last a while than on a gourmet meal.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Libras spend a little and save a little. Your Libra has savings for a rainy day, but also plans ahead to spend money on something she enjoys. She needs something to look forward to, which is why she’s the friend who plans for a cruise a year ahead. Libras work hard and enjoy a little adventure. However, she’s the friend who’d rather get away with her boyfriend than with you.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

Your Scorpio girlfriend is always thinking about money. She’s not the best when it comes to saving, but she’s always thinking about ways to make more money. Chances are she’s tried to sell you Advocare or dragged you along to a Rodan and Fields party. If you’re in a money pinch, your Scorpio friend will help you go through your closet and find items to sell at Buffalo Exchange.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Sagittarians are hard workers and don’t mind putting all of their effort into work. Your Sagittarius friend enjoys her job and has a growth plan for her future. When it comes to money, she’s pretty practical. She is good at saving money and typically makes careful spending choices. She’s not the friend who’s going to go on a spontaneous shopping spree with you. She’s the friend who will invite the girls over for game night and offer up craft beer, chips, and an array of Trader Joe’s hummus.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Capricorns are super smart, efficient and do well when it comes saving and spending their money. Your Capricorn friend is not impulsive but definitely enjoys the finer things. She won’t hesitate when it comes to buying a nice piece of furniture for her home or a brand new wardrobe filled with smart staples. If you’re looking to Marie Kondo your home, invite your Capricorn friend over to help. Guarantee she will bring a nice bottle of Chardonnay and an Excel spreadsheet to help itemize your belongings.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

Your passionate Aquarius girlfriend lives in a dream. She’s ambitious and great at manifesting exactly what she wants. She’s hard working because she does what she loves, no exceptions. She spends money on things and experiences she loves. She will always remember your birthday, and though the gift is rarely you, it’s the thought that counts.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Your Pisces friend was likely the first one of your friends to have hired a financial advisor. Not because she’s responsible, but because she really needs the help. She’s not great at saving money, which is why she needs clear instructions to control her spending habits. She goes with the flow when it comes to spending and gets carried away with impulse buying. Though she’s super smart and capable, money just seems to wash away too quickly.

The space in which you live plays an important role in your daily mood. Lighting, of course, is a well-known mood modulator, but emerging research on the intersection of art and science is also looking at ways in which space, rooms and decor affect psychological well-being.

“The premise is to consider how each feature of the architectural environment influences certain brain processes such as those involved in stress, emotion and memory,” says Eve Edelstein, Ph.D., adjunct professor at the NewSchool of Architecture & Design in San Diego and a research consultant to the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture (ANFA).

Science aside, when you look around your home  and see things that represent who you are (the books you’ve read, the art you’ve created, vintage furniture you’ve curated), you feel grounded.

We’ve compiled home items that can instantly transform your space and elevate your mood.

The Power Of Plants

“We know that plants are calming, but there is also a lot of evidence that they are beneficial to human health,” says RHS principal horticultural advisor, Leigh Hunt. Indoor plants can also elicit a number of physical health benefits, including the removal of airborne pollutants and the minimization of stress, anxiety and fatigue.

Pillows In Colors You Love

There have been a few discoveries and observations about the psychology of color and the effect it has on moods. Though many can be regionally and anecdotally subjective, your feelings about color are often deeply personal and rooted in your own culture or experience.

Original Art

“Decorating with a signed painting or one-of-a-kind sculpture not only puts your unique fingerprint on your place, it transmits a sense of authenticity and trust,” says David Lewis, PhD, research director of Neuroco, a British neuromarketing company that uses EEGs (which measure electrical activity in the brain) and other techniques to understand consumer behavior.

Daily affirmations are key to manifesting happiness.

Happiness is a state of mind, so it makes sense that you could improve your mood by tricking your mind into believing positive words of affirmation. And it’s not just “sense”. Science also offers proof that positive affirmations can neutralize negative thoughts and improve your performance in various areas. To foster a more loving relationship with your inner self each day, look in the mirror and give yourself a pep-talk with these three positive affirmations to start your morning:

No matter what yesterday had in store, today is a good day to begin again.

I am strong. I am beautiful. I am enough. Repeat this affirmation in the morning for an instant confidence boost

Reminding yourself that you are grateful for what you have is a great way to establish mindfulness at the start of your day. Having gratitude is good for your mood and great for your soul.

How personal finances can affect your wellness.

Many forget that caring for your personal finances is a huge part of caring for yourself. If you’re constantly stressed about money, there’s no doubt that it’s affecting your health, mood and general well being. The good news is that there are minor tweaks you can make to your money habits today that will pay big dividends to your overall health.

If you aren’t budgeting, start doing so now. If you’ve got your bills in control but could stand to save a bit more, then create a budget for what you’ll allow yourself to spend on non fixed expenses this week. And don’t go over it. If you need work on getting your bills and spending in control, then create a monthly budget detailing all of your bills, loan payments, living expenses, and remaining balance. You’ll feel so much better about taking control of your money.

Impulse buying goes right up there with cheat meals. Just because you have a cheat meal doesn’t mean you have to throw your whole diet away. Making mindful decisions with your money falls into your overall practice of mindfulness. Before making an impulse purchase on something  you either can’t afford or simply don’t need, ask yourself this: How will this purchase make me feel next month and how will it improve my overall happiness?

Credit cards can be tricky, as they offer the convenience of buying larger ticket items with the option to pay over time. It’s easy to justify buying something if you just pay off the balance at the end of the month, but the truth is this doesn’t always go as planned. Yes, credit cards can be a great tool in establishing and building credit. But unless you are extremely disciplined, try to avoid using credit cards for things you simply can’t afford.

I can’t count how many times I’ve defaulting to purchasing things at a premium (hello, Prime Now) because I failed to plan or was too lazy (I’ll admit it) to leave the house for something I needed or”had to have”. Planning ahead for things from food and toiletries to gifts and parking will help you save money on items you’d otherwise pay a premium for.

Our bodies are in a constant calorie burning state, so it’s no surprise that you can still burn calories while sitting at your desk. However, what is surprising is that you can still improve your health and burn more calories during a long day of sitting with just a few minor tweaks to your workday routine.

Studies have shown that while sitting for long periods of time is bad, small amounts of toe tapping and fidgeting can increase blood flow to your legs and may also prevent heart disease. You can also burn more calories throughout the day with just a little bit of wiggle.

Drinking lots of water not only keeps you hydrated, but it also encourages you to get up and go. Water infused with real fruit is also a good and natural way to flatten your belly, as you are satiating thirst that oftentimes is confused with hunger.

Get in a quick thigh and glute workout at your desk everyday. Simply raise you leg to thigh level for 10-15 reps each. You’ll feel a nice burn and definitely notice a difference in your muscle tone. Tip: Set a calendar reminder two times a day during the workweek to help you stay on track.

Suck in your stomach as far as you can, then stick it out as far as you can. Breathe in when sucking in and breathe out when you push your stomach out. This small exercise helps blood flow to the stomach, aids in digestion, and exercises your abdominal muscles.

It’s so easy for work-related stress or boredom to twist up your healthy eating habits. What’s worse is if you have poor food choices at your job or don’t have the time to eat a proper meal during the workday. When you shop for groceries, pick up healthy snacks like almonds, light popcorn and dried fruit to keep at your desk.

Consider making evening baths part of your weekly self-care routine to relieve stress. While you may not always have the time for a long soak everyday, carving out time a few days a week for a relaxing and mindful bath can do a lot of good in reducing tension and relieving stress. Just as you’d schedule time at the gym, make a nice tub soak a priority for your physical and mental wellness.

Lay back, and relax. Baths give you the opportunity to pause the day in a way that showers can’t. Not only are you in a relaxing position, but you’re surrounded by warm water characteristic of the womb, which is naturally comforting. Tip: Trade scrolling through your phone for this relaxing Spotify playlist.

Ease pain and soothe muscles. Salt baths are great for easing pain and some arthritic conditions, as the salt dehydrates the swelling in cells and acts as an inflammation inhibitor. Tip: This scented Epsom Salt immediately transports me to my favorite Maui beach.

Prepare for better sleep. A drop in body temperature at night is one of the classic signals for the body to start producing melatonin, the hormone that induces sleep. A warm bath is a good way to kick-start your body into feeling sleepy, as you’re artificially warming your body in the tub and then cooling it after you get out. Tip: This shatterproof wine glass is perfect for keeping you and your nightcap safe.

There’s something about summer months that inspires me dive into self-help books. Perhaps it’s because warmer weather motivates me to care for my body by exercising more and eating lighter, and self-help books add a wholistic element to a complete summer care routine. Or, maybe it’s that poolside cocktails and the smell of coconut sunscreen set the perfect mood for an uplifting page-turner. Here are three inspiring books with self-help elements to read before summer ends.

The Power Of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment  by Eckhart Tolle

The theme of The Power of Now is that you can find and maintain a deep sense of peace, joy and fulfillment, and in doing so, “return home to yourself.” These concepts are very real and attainable. It is like being able to see the world with clarity and without the constant stream of mental judgments, mental noise and fear. If you are dealing with depression and/or anxiety, this is the book to get to open your life and help you experience the freedom and ease of this very moment.

The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom Don Miguel Ruiz

The Alchemist by Pablo Coelho

This is not a typical book where you read just for an exciting storyline, this is a book about a certain view on life and is an inspiration about finding your dream and then following it. While reading you have to keep an open mind for the metaphors and the true meaning of the story. The concept of always finishing a journey no matter what the cost is something to admire. You often hear so many people complain about what they could have done but never do anything about changing their current situation. The message of The Universe conspiring to help you achieve something is inspiring.
